Skiing in Alpbachtal

The Ski Juwel links the Alpbachtal and Wildschönau valleys into a mid-sized, unpretentious ski area that is ideal for families and improving skiers. Alpbach itself, with its wooden farmhouses and flower-decked balconies, is often called Austria's most beautiful village.

The ski area

The Ski Juwel is made up of four mountains across two neighbouring valleys. On the Alpbachtal side the Wiedersberger Horn rises above Alpbach and Inneralpbach; across the ridge, the Schatzberg serves Auffach in the Wildschönau, and the two are joined at the top so you can ski from one valley to the other. Smaller family hills complete the picture. Together they offer 114 km of slopes, which includes 16 km of ski routes: 31 km blue, 54 km red and 13 km black, served by 45 lifts between 830 and 2,030 m.

It is not a huge area, but it is a well-organised one. The reds are long and flowing, the blues wide, and there is enough variety for a week without the feeling of being lost in a mega-resort. The 2026/2027 season runs from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027.

Who is Alpbachtal for?

This is a family resort in the best sense: unpretentious, affordable and welcoming. Children learn on gentle nursery slopes near the villages, parents enjoy the reds on the Wiedersberger Horn and everyone meets at a mountain hut for lunch. Beginners and intermediates have the ideal progression. Experts will exhaust the blacks quickly, and anyone after Ischgl-style nightlife should look elsewhere: evenings here are about a quiet drink and a good meal.

Practical

Alpbachtal is one of the easier Tyrolean valleys to reach from Belgium: about 900 km and 9 hours from Brussels, and the villages are close to the Inntal motorway. Innsbruck airport is only 55 km away. Peak-season prices in 2026/2027 are 71.50 euros per day and 363.50 euros for 6 days, with cheaper rates early and late in the season. Keep an eye on the altitude: in a mild winter the valley runs rely on snow cannons.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Brussels to Alpbachtal?

About 900 km and roughly 9 hours via Munich and the Inntal motorway; the valleys are only a short climb from the motorway at Wörgl or Kramsach. Innsbruck airport is just 55 km away.

How much is a lift pass at Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau?

In peak season 2026/2027 (19 December to 12 March) an adult day pass costs 71.50 euros and a 6-day pass 363.50 euros. In the pre-season and from 13 March to 4 April it is 64.50 and 327.50 euros, noticeably cheaper than the big-name resorts.

Is the Alpbachtal good for beginners?

Very. There are nursery slopes in the villages, 31 km of blue runs higher up and ski schools used to teaching children. The whole area feels relaxed, and the slopes are rarely crowded outside the Christmas and February peaks.
