  • Anyone who wants to combine skiing with a day trip to Italy

The ski area

Nassfeld stretches along the border ridge between Carinthia and Friuli, with 110 km of slopes: 30 km blue, 69 km red and 11 km black. The 29 lifts include the Millennium-Express gondola, which climbs from the valley station in Tröpolach at 600 m to the pass. The top station is at 2,002 m, with the pass village itself at around 1,530 m.

This is intermediate heaven: long, wide reds through the trees and over open meadows, with plenty of sun. Beginners have gentle zones around the pass, and a few steeper blacks keep stronger skiers interested. The 2026/2027 season runs from 4 December 2026 to 4 April 2027.

Who is Nassfeld for?

Nassfeld is for families and intermediates who want a calm, sunny week without the crowds and prices of Tyrol. Children’s areas and ski schools are well organised, and the slopes are rarely busy. The après-ski is modest: a few huts on the mountain and bars at the pass, nothing wild. If you like the idea of lunch in Italy, the slopes literally run down to the border and Friuli is just over the hill.

Practical

Honesty first: the drive from Belgium is long, about 1,180 km and 11.5 hours from Brussels, and a little less from Antwerp. Consider breaking the journey in Bavaria or flying to Klagenfurt, about 110 km away. Accommodation is split between the pass (ski-in/ski-out) and the valley villages around Hermagor and the Pressegger See, which are cheaper but mean taking the gondola each morning.

Frequently asked questions

How far is Nassfeld from Brussels?

About 1,180 km and 11.5 hours via Germany, Salzburg and the Tauern motorway. It is one of the furthest Austrian resorts for Belgians, so a stopover or a flight to Klagenfurt (about 110 km away) is worth considering.

How much is a lift pass in Nassfeld?

In high season 2026/2027 an adult day pass costs 73 euros and a 6-day pass 381 euros. In low season (before 25 December and from 14 March) it is 67.50 and 353 euros.

Is Nassfeld snow-sure?

Reasonably. The pass itself sits at around 1,530 m and the slopes reach 2,002 m, with extensive snowmaking. The valley run to Tröpolach at 600 m is the weak spot in a mild winter. The 2026/2027 season runs from 4 December to 4 April.
