The ski area
Snow Space Salzburg links Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann-Alpendorf into 120 km of slopes with 45 lifts, between 740 and 1,980 m. The mix is 34 km blue, 82.1 km red and just 4 km black, which tells you what kind of area this is: wide, groomed reds for confident cruising, not steep challenges. Via the Panorama Link gondola the area connects with Flachauwinkl-Kleinarl and Zauchensee into the 12 Peaks region, 210 km with 70 lifts.
Every pass of two days or more is a Ski amadé pass, valid on 760 km of slopes and roughly 270 lifts across Salzburgerland, including Schladming and the higher, snow-sure Zauchensee. The season runs from 28 November 2026 to 4 April 2027.
Who is Flachau for?
Flachau is a family resort first. The village is flat and compact, the ski schools sit at the foot of the slopes and the children’s areas are generous. Intermediates can ski a new sector of Ski amadé every day; the car makes Zauchensee, Schladming and Hochkönig easy day trips. Après-ski is lively in Flachau’s slope-side bars, more subdued in Wagrain and St. Johann. Experts will tire of the local terrain quickly and should treat Flachau as a base rather than a destination.
Practical
Flachau is a long but simple drive from Belgium, about 1,000 km and 10 hours with motorway all the way to the village. Salzburg airport is only 70 km away. Because the area is low, pick a January or February week for the best snow, and check prices online before you travel: the Ski amadé online rates are noticeably cheaper than the ticket desk.
