The ski area

The Skiliftkarussell Winterberg has 34 runs on seven hills, totalling 27.5 km: 14 km blue, 12 km red and 1.5 km black. The 26 lifts are surprisingly modern for a low mountain range, with lots of chairlifts and conveyor belts for children. The highest point is on the Kahler Asten, at around 820 m.

With a ticket of three days or more you can also ski in Willingen and Hunau-Bödefeld. Together they form the Skiwelt Winterberg with more than 44 km of slopes.

Who is Winterberg for?

Winterberg is not an alternative to the Alps, but it is an excellent complement. Beginners can learn the basics in a weekend without taking a week off work. Families with small children find quiet nursery slopes and short lifts. Experienced skiers come mainly for a day of technique work or the evening sessions under the floodlights.

Practical

The season usually runs from early December to mid-March, snow permitting. A day ticket costs 53 euros in 2026/2027. On busy weekends Winterberg turns into a proper winter playground with toboggan runs and a snow park; leave early to avoid parking stress.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Brussels to Winterberg?

About 330 km, so 3.5 hours via Liège, Aachen, Cologne and Olpe. From Antwerp it is slightly shorter, around 310 km.

Is there enough snow in Winterberg?

It depends on the winter. The Skiliftkarussell has hundreds of snow cannons and can make snow quickly when it freezes, but during a mild spell slopes can close. Check the slope status before you leave.

Can you ski in the evening in Winterberg?

Yes. On several evenings a week, 14 slopes are floodlit until 10 pm. An evening ticket costs 32 euros in 2026/2027.
