The ski area
Saas-Fee’s slopes rise from the village at 1,800 m to 3,600 m on the Mittelallalin, reached by the Alpin Express gondola and the Metro Alpin, the world’s highest underground funicular. The area offers 100 km of slopes with 22 lifts, split into roughly 20 km easy, 60 km intermediate and 20 km difficult. The glacier runs are long, wide and gentle, perfect for intermediates; the steeper terrain is lower down around the Längfluh and Plattjen.
The wider Saas valley adds Saas-Grund (Hohsaas), Saas-Almagell and Saas-Balen, each a separate small area. The 2026/2027 winter season runs from 31 October 2026 to 18 April 2027.
Who is Saas-Fee for?
Saas-Fee is a family resort with serious mountains. Children can play in the car-free streets, the nursery slopes are at the edge of the village and the snow never lets you down. Intermediates get a week of satisfying glacier cruising. Experts will find a few challenges, but the modest 100 km and linear layout mean strong skiers may feel they have seen it all by midweek. Après-ski is relaxed, with a handful of bars and a fine selection of restaurants.
Practical
From Belgium plan about 880 km and 8.75 hours, with a Swiss motorway vignette and the winding road up from Visp. Park at the village entrance and your hotel collects you with an electric taxi. Geneva is the nearest major airport at around 230 km. Bring warm layers: the glacier is high and cold even on sunny days.
