Pros

  • Only about 770 km and 7.5 hours from Brussels; Geneva airport is 75 km away
  • Two real villages with Savoyard charm, restaurants and good après-ski
  • 120 km of family-friendly slopes, plus the Portes du Soleil on one pass
  • Good value: a 6-day sector pass costs 276 euros online

Cons

  • Low: the sector tops out at 2,019 m and Morzine lies at 1,000 m, so snow can be thin
  • Short season, from 19 December to 4 April
  • Morzine is not ski-in/ski-out; expect to use the bus or a lift from the centre

Best for

  • Families with young children
  • Beginners and intermediates who like tree-lined runs
  • Weekend or short-break skiers from Belgium

The ski area

Morzine and Les Gets share one sector of 120 km with 74 runs (4 green, 33 blue, 28 red and 9 black) and 50 lifts, between 1,000 and 2,019 m. From Morzine the Pléney gondola climbs to the ridge that links to Les Gets; on the other side of the valley the Super Morzine lift leads towards Avoriaz. Most of the skiing is through forest and over gentle shoulders, with wide blues around Les Gets and the Chavannes sector that are ideal for families.

The Portes du Soleil pass unlocks 600 km across 12 resorts in France and Switzerland. The 2026/2027 season runs from 19 December 2026 to 4 April 2027.

Who is Morzine–Les Gets for?

This is one of the best areas in France for a first family ski holiday. Les Gets is small, quiet and has excellent children’s facilities; Morzine is a lively market town with bars, restaurants and a famous après-ski scene. Beginners and intermediates have everything they need on the doorstep, and stronger skiers can head to Avoriaz and the Swiss side for steeper terrain. Snow reliability is the one honest caveat: at this altitude, pick your week carefully.

Practical

Morzine is the easy option from Belgium: about 770 km and 7.5 hours, almost all motorway, with no serious mountain road at the end. Geneva airport is 75 km away, so a long weekend by plane is perfectly feasible. Buy your lift pass online for the cheaper rate, and check whether your chalet is within walking distance of the Pléney or Super Morzine lifts.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the drive from Brussels to Morzine?

About 770 km and 7.5 hours via Luxembourg, Dijon and Geneva; from Antwerp around 815 km. Morzine is one of the closest Alpine resorts to Belgium, and Geneva airport is only 75 km away, which makes a fly-drive weekend realistic.

How much is a lift pass in Morzine–Les Gets?

In 2026/2027 the Morzine–Les Gets sector pass costs 50 euros per day or 276 euros for 6 days online (56 and 312 euros at the ticket office). The full Portes du Soleil pass is 69 and 352 euros online. From 20 March the sector pass drops to 42.50 and 234.60 euros.

Is there enough snow in Morzine?

It is the main weakness. Morzine sits at 1,000 m and the sector reaches 2,019 m, so in a mild winter the lower runs rely on snowmaking. Choose January or February and keep Avoriaz, higher up on the same pass, as a fallback.
