The ski area
The Espace San Bernardo links La Rosière with La Thuile in Italy’s Aosta Valley across the Petit-Saint-Bernard pass. Together they offer 156 km of certified pistes with 39 lifts, from 1,176 to 2,800 m. The official split is roughly 45 percent green and blue, 40 percent red and 15 percent black. The French side is gentle and sunny; the Italian side is steeper, shadier and holds its snow better, with long reds down to La Thuile.
The season runs from 12 December 2026 to 17 April 2027, with the Italian link open until 11 April. The resort has grown in recent years with new lifts on the Mont Valaisan side, adding higher, steeper terrain.
Who is La Rosière for?
La Rosière is a family resort through and through. Children learn on the slopes beside the village, parents cruise the sunny blues and reds, and everyone enjoys the excursion to Italy for a plate of pasta. Intermediates get enough variety for a week, especially with the Italian side; experts will want the off-piste around the pass. Après-ski is limited to a few bars, which is precisely why many families choose it.
Practical
From Belgium it is about 890 km and 9 hours, with the steep climb from Bourg-Saint-Maurice at the end, where winter equipment is compulsory. Geneva airport is about 190 km away. The village is small and almost entirely ski-in/ski-out, and hire shops and ski schools are a short walk from most apartments. Arrive early on Saturdays to avoid the Tarentaise changeover traffic.
