The ski area
The Courchevel valley has 150 km of marked slopes, 58 lifts and a vertical range from 1,300 to 2,740 m at the Saulire. The lift company says half of the slopes are green or blue, and that shows: wide, sunny boulevards above 1850 and 1650, long tree-lined runs down to 1550 and Le Praz, and the forest around La Tania. Stronger skiers head for the Saulire couloirs and the Creux sector.
As part of Les 3 Vallées, the pass unlocks 600 km of slopes and 347 runs, with 85 percent of the terrain above 1,800 m. Méribel is one lift away over the Saulire, Val Thorens a morning’s ski. The season runs from 4 December 2026 to 18 April 2027.
Who is Courchevel for?
Courchevel is for anyone who wants comfort on the slopes. Beginners and nervous intermediates get some of the gentlest terrain in the 3 Vallées, and families find excellent ski schools and wide, safe runs. Advanced skiers use it as a base for the whole area. The villages differ a lot: Courchevel 1850 is where the luxury hotels and prices are; 1650 (Moriond) and 1550 are more down to earth, and Le Praz is a charming old village at 1,300 m. Après-ski is relaxed; the Folie Douce near Méribel is the exception.
Practical
From Belgium count on about 900 km and 9 hours, with the final mountain road from Moûtiers requiring winter equipment. Geneva is about 190 km away; Chambéry is nearer but has few flights. Stay in 1650 or 1550 for a far more affordable week with exactly the same skiing.
